The Intellectual Property Management Office has protected the intellectual property of numerous innovations developed at the University of Nairobi. The innovations are in different stages of development with a number of the innovations being ready for commercialization. Here, we highlight some of the protected innovations that are ready for the market.
The British Council has launched the Innovation for African Universities (IAU) programme aimed at strengthening the capacity of Universities to participate and provide meaningful contributions as key players within the entrepreneurship ecosystem in their respective regions.
The programme will be delivered by a Centre of Excellence consisting of tripartite partners – University of Nairobi, City University of London and Change School London.
Innovation and commercialisation are no longer peripheral activities, but the bedrock of the University’s 2023-2027 Strategic Plan. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Margaret Jesang Hutchinson, made these remarks on March 25, 2026, during the Research and Innovation Week (RIW) 2025 Innovators’ Award Ceremony organised by the Research, Innovation and Enterprise (RIE) Division.
