A courtesy visit of the IPMO Office to Mazao group of companies at Agitech Seedlings in Embu County

The IPMO office, led by Director Prof. Maina Wagacha, Eng. John Maina and Ms. Cherry Tay visited the  Mazaao group of companies at the Agitech Seedlings Company in Embu on 15th November 2025, to explore partnerships for the training, research, and commercialization of agricultural innovations.

Maazao group of Companies  under Agitech Seedlings Company, which started around 48 years ago, is a significant player in the agricultural sector, particularly in seedling propagation. They do propagate all types of seedlings. They have an annual Agitech Grand Expo, during which this year  M-TOLOKI: An online purchasing platform, was launched. 

Distribution/Operations is handled by Maazao group (a distribution entity), which handles importation/development of their own product line.

Agitec  Seedlings has branches in Kamakis, Mwea, Makutano, Oloitoktok, Malindi, Bura Tana River, and Marigat.

Key Areas of Collaboration and Partnership discussed include:

  • Bridging the gap between academic innovation and market commercialization in the agricultural sector.
  • Commercialization of research output and solving industry problems.
  • Joint Research focusing on solving research problems, such as the up-cycling of planting trees and potato seedlings.
  • Creating linkages between inventors and industry.
  • Student Set-Up Field Experiments. attachment & internship opportunities.
  • Participation in the Curriculum Review (specifically for Agriculture). |
  • Resource Utilization | Optimizing the use of University assets for innovation. | Seed Multiplication on the University's land.
  • Participate in each other's events & activities in different forums.
  • Joint application for grants and other funding opportunities.
