15 innovators comprising students and faculty for incubation of their innovation

Good news for the first cohort of 15 innovators comprised of students and staff of the University as they have been selected to go through a 6-month incubation and acceleration program.

This was revealed during the launch of the Innovation, Incubation and Commercialization (IIC) program on Wednesday, 19th April 2023 at the C4DLab in Chiromo campus.

Congratulations on being selected to the inaugural IIC program of the University of Nairobi. The university is committed to moving ideas to market that will solve society needs and contribute to youth Job creation and socio economic development in line with the government agenda. we wish the 2023 ist cohort  success in your journey to commercialization of your innovation. 
 

The Bean Commercialization challenge was informed by the fact that University researcher Professor Paul Kimani from the Department of Plant Science and crop protection in the Faculty of Agriculture has developed more than 50 new improved bean varieties seeds.

The Director IPMO, Professor Mary Kinoti on Friday 13th April 2022 joined the University of Nairobi community in marking the annual tree planting day. The event facilitated by the Faculty of Agriculture and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine was graced by the University of Nairobi Vice-Chancellor, Prof Stephen Kiama, the DVC (AA), the Chief Operations Officer, Deans of Faculties, students, staff and partners among them the Equity Foundation.

The University of Nairobi has partnered with Safaricom and invites interested innovators to a hackathon. The hackathon is one of the exciting events that will take place at the Nairobi Innovation Week 2022. This is an opportunity for innovators to come together to learn, share their innovations that solve some of society’s problems and build a powerful network.

The IPMO is conducting a series of sensitization campaigns on innovation and intellectual property protection targeting the 11 faculties at the University of Nairobi. This campaign running through April seeks to create awareness among the University staff members on the status quo of innovation in the faculties and the essence of intellectual property protection.

The Intellectual Property Management Office partnered with Hult-Prize at the On Campus program finals held on 15th March 2022. The event held at the University of Nairobi Main Campus witnessed the University of Nairobi intellectual property officer, Mr John Maina present to the audience an address on intellectual property protection. Mr Maina called on innovators to seek intellectual property protection for inventions and innovations that they develop to gain maximum benefit from their hard work.

The sixth instalment of the Nairobi Innovation Week themed “Innovation for Transformation and Impact in the Society” is set to take place from 26th - 28th April 2022 at the University of Nairobi, Main Campus.

The Nairobi Innovation Week (NIW) is an annual event celebrating local and international innovations while enhancing the innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem. Since the first Nairobi Innovation Week in 2015, the University of Nairobi in collaboration with a large number of partners and stakeholders have convened each year to organize and execute the NIW event. However, due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the NIW 2020 and 2021 were not held.
