Members of staff and heads of departments from the Central Administration attended a workshop on corruption at the Jomo Kenyatta Memorial Library today 8th June 2016.

Professor Issac Mbeche who was representing the Vice Chancellor Professor Mbithi said that there must be something that can be done about corruption. He also asked staff members to avoid bad habits like misuse of overtime and university resources.

During the workshop it was noted that the University has formed various committees that deal with matters of corruption prevention, Ethics and Integrity in the Central Administration units and all the six Colleges of the University.  Senior members of staff have been also trained in Integrity Assurance by EACC.  Participants were urged to ensure that they adhere to the service charter  as they render services to the customers.

Dr. Grace Kirika took members through ‘the way forward’. All units were advised to open registers in the following areas; (i) Compliment/Complain register, (ii) Gift received and issued register and (ii) Conflict of interest register.

Members were also advised that it is against the rules and constitution to collect any gift of monetary value. This is because it is hard to trace money. A gift can be accepted so long as it does not exceed 20,000kshs. Any gift received exceeding this amount should be surrendered within 48 hours and noted in the register.

The event was well attended by over 100 members of staff.
